Install Slim ICS on Galaxy S 4G For Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0

In a time where everyone is trying to get a taste of Jelly Bean Android 4.1 on their devices through custom ROMs, there are still some devices out there that are still receiving new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich based custom ROMs. One of those devices is the Galaxy S 4G, the little-known 4G-enabled variant of the Samsung Vibrant (which already has a Jelly Bean ROM).
XDA Senior Member erikmm has released Slim ICS, an Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 ROM that is known for its slim and trimmed down size resulting in a lightweight ROM with a few features and customization options thrown in, for a good taste of pure Android 4.0 without TouchWiz or other Samsung apps, for the Galaxy S 4G.
There are a couple of issues in the ROM, though they shouldn’t prevent you from using the ROM as your daily driver. The following bugs currently exist in the ROM (quoted from the development page):
CWM can’t backup/restore
UMS (USB Mass Storage mode)
Let’s take a look at how you can install Slim ICS ROM on your Galaxy S 4G.
Compatibility
This ROM and the guide below are compatible only and only with the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, model number T959VIt’s not compatible the T595 or with any other device and may render an incompatible device unusable. Check your device model in Settings » About phone.
Warning!
The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. If any damage occurs to your device, we won’t be held liable.

How to Install Slim ICS Ice Cream Sandwich ROM on Galaxy S 4G

  1. This procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry about those). Backup your Apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you.
NOTE: Don’t forget to at least make a backup of your APN settings, which you can restore later if your data connection does not work after installing the ROM. Use the backup guide to find out how.
  2. Make sure you have ClockworkMod recovery installed on your phone.
  3. Download the ROM from its download page. You need to download two files as given below:
    1. Slim_Common.zip
    2. GalaxyS_4G_x.x.zip (where x.x is the latest version of the ROM)
  4. Copy both the downloaded files to the internal SD card on the phone (only copy the files as they are, do not extract them).
  5. Turn off the phone, then boot into ClockworkMod recovery. To do so, press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down buttons together while pressing the power button to turn on the phone. Once the phone turns on, keep holding the Volume Up + Volume Down buttons till the phone boots into recovery.
In recovery, use Volume keys to scroll up and down and power key to select an option.
  6. Select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm. Wait a while till the data wipe is complete.
  7. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Scroll to the GalaxyS_4G_x.x.zipfile on the SD card and select it. Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install GalaxyS_4G_x.x.zip on the next screen. The ROM will start installing.
  8. After installation completes, select choose zip from sdcard again, then select the Slim_Common.zipfile. Confirm installation on next screen.
  9. After installation of the Slim_Common.zip file is complete, select go back then select reboot system now to reboot the phone and boot up into Slim ICS ROM.
Slim ICS ROM, based on Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 is now installed on your Galaxy S 4G. Visit the official development page for more info and to get the latest updates on the ROM. Share your thoughts on the ROM in the comments.

CM9 for Galaxy S3

Well, CM9 for Galaxy S3 was launched last night, and now much to the entertainment of boasting group with a Galaxy S3 in side, the AOKP rom is also available. Thanks goes to Faryaab for this, who is well known to group for his amazing F1 roms of which he’s designer and creator. So yes, this AOKP is not formal one right now, but it’s as excellent as formal would be if it’s launched right now. We think the formal develop will be launched soon, and it could also end up that that this develop of Faryaab is given the formal position.

Since AOKP roms are depending on their CM9 version — just like MIUI roms used to be previously, but some some MIUI roms are depending on inventory too now, for example One X MIUI rom — it’s only a issue of your energy and energy that AOKP came for Galaxy S3 after Cyanogenmod 9 did. And btw, the newest edition of AOKP rom is Build 39, and this  Galaxy  S3 AOKP is that only, the newest and most modified one.

And since it’s depending on CM9, the Galaxy S3 AOKP rom stocks (read: experiences with) same insects as that of CM9. Here is it:

The only insects this AOKP rom for Galaxy S3 comes with, as of May 18, 2012, are: FM Stations not reinforced, LED cannot be used in Photographic camera which causes Power Ends on some cellular phones (all other camera factors perform just fine) and finally, Wi-Fi relationship concerns for some, for which there is a operating fix too until the bug itself is ironed out absolutely. So, no deal-breaker insects with this Galaxy S3 AOKP develop, just go forward and set up it using the guidelines set below on the Galaxy S3 i9300 near you. Examine out the Known Issues web page here for modified record of insects as the growth goes on and new creates come out.

Compatibility

This information is appropriate only for New samsung Galaxy S3 worldwide edition GT-i9300 — one with Exynos quad-core brand and 1GB RAM. It is NOT for Galaxy S3 at Verizon, Dash, AT&T, T-Mobile, US Mobile and any other Canada Galaxy S3. Examine your cell phone's edition in Configurations – About Mobile phone. It has to be “GT-i9300” for this AOKP rom to be suitable with your phone.

Warning!

The techniques and techniques mentioned here are regarded dangerous and you should not effort anything if you do not know absolutely what it is. If any harm happens to you or your program, we will not be organised accountable — you only will be accountable, you have been warned!!!

The latest update that we have seen officially for the Galaxy Note is the Gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKL1 OTA update that is available through the Software update section of the note, or the same can be done through the Samsung Kies software. Before this, it was the Gingerbread 2.3.5 for the Galaxy note, but now the 2.3.6 version has rolled out. As said in the update availability status, the new update is just to make the stability better and there are no other major changes that one might notice.
Whenever there is a new software update available for the Galaxy Note, you would see a notification in the note regarding the same, and this is possible only if you have set the option of checking for updates as On.
